"Franklin and the Thunderstorm"Franklin and Bear are on the way to pick up Snail for a soccer game. They try taking a shortcut through the woods. This proves to be a problem though, as Bear runs into a spider's web and he's very afraid of spiders. Franklin helps get the spider (well, actually, it was a leaf) off of Bear's back and they decide maybe taking the shortcut wasn't such a good idea. When they get to where Snail is supposed to be, they can't find him. He's not where they were going to meet him. Then, Snail calls to them. Looks like he's hiding from something. Snail directs the to a large shadow. Bear crouches too, but Franklin looks around. He sees that it's just the shadow of a small dragonfly. No big deal. With that dealt with, they head for the game. At the game, Rabbit is playing goalie for Franklin's team. He doesn't catch the ball and Beaver scores. Rabbit meekly admits that he's afraid of the ball hitting him. Franklin says that he'll be goalkeeper. They could use Rabbit out on the field anyway, since he's so fast. Rabbit wonders if Franklin is afraid of the ball hitting him. But Bear and Snail tell Rabbit that Franklin is fearless. The game continues, but then, it starts to rain. At first, everyone's going to go home, but then Goose suggests going to the library to wait it out. Franklin, seeing big storm clouds coming, isn't so sure. At the library, he suggests that maybe he'll just run for home. Mrs. Goose, however, has him come inside. She'll call everyone's parents, so they don't worry. The group begins working on a large puzzle, but Franklin just sort of sits and watches out a window. Then, the power goes out. Everyone gets worried when they hear a scraping sound. They think maybe it's a ghost. But Franklin shows them: it's just a tree branch scraping against the window. They all call him fearless. Franklin says that he isn't. He's afraid of something, but he doesn't want to say it. Then, there's a big flash of lightning. Scared stiff, Franklin retreats into his shell. Well, now everyone knows what he's scared of. But nobody thinks it's silly, like Franklin was afraid they would. They all help him out, even Mrs. Goose. She tells Franklin that she once heard that thunder is just Cloud Giants laughing up a storm. Ever since then, she can't help but laugh when she hears thunder. Everyone else shares similar anecdotes and Franklin starts feeling better. Pretty soon, a rainbow comes up. Mrs. Goose shares that she heard that there's a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow. Franklin thinks that's why the storm ended: the Cloud Giants went to look for the pot of gold.#31202
"Franklin's Maple Syrup"Franklin and Bear are having a racing competition with Beaver and Fox. They're racing sleds/tobaggens and Beaver and Fox keep winning. Franklin and Bear go off elsewhere and notice trees that with holes in them. Wondering what's going on, they see footprints and follow them to a shed in the woods. There, they find Coach. Coach explains that she's making maple syrup. Franklin wonders why she can't just by it at the store, but Coach explains that it's a lot more fun to actually do it yourself. She details the process of tapping trees in order to get sap to make into syrup. Intrigued, Franklin and Bear ask if they can help. Coach gives them pails and spigots to use to tap the trees. Franklin and Bear soon get to work, but they run into trouble when Franklin's sled falls down a hill. Then, worse, they try to tap a particular tree, only to find Beaver and Fox. Coach showed them how to tap trees too. From there, it's a competition to tap trees. But Fox and Beaver keep claiming all the best trees before Bear and Franklin can get to them. Then, Bear and Franklin finally find some good trees, but now it's a race back to Coach, as whoever gets back first will have their syrup made first. Things get a bit crazy when everyone lands in a heap at the bottom of the hill where the shed is. Then, Coach explains to them that it takes 40 pails of sap just to make one pail of maple syrup. They realize that they're all going to have to work together in order to get this done. So, they do, and finally they're able to enjoy blueberry pancakes with maple syrup.
