On tonight's episode, the 12 Nashville Star finalists each performed country standards during the first round of competition, live from the BellSouth Acuff Theatre in Nashville. At the end of the evening, host Nancy O'Dell will read the name of one finalist who will be eliminated from the competition.

The finalists were briefly introduced with taped segments shot at home or work.

Miranda Lambert was the first to perform. She sang "Honky Tonk Blues."
Judge Robert K. Oermann commented, "Miranda, if you're this good at 19, it's scary to think what you'll be like at 30."

Buddy Jewell was next singing "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" that caused thunderous applause.
Judge Robert K. Oermann said "Some of the greatest vocalists in the history of country music have sung that song, everybody from Eddy Arnold to Glen Campbell. I've never liked it better than I did tonight."

Intercut with the performances was pretaped footage showing the finalists' arrival in Nashville and their reaction as they moved into the house they will live in during the competition.

Brandon Silveira, sang "Act Naturally," winning the judges over.
Judges Charlie Robison and Robert K. Oermann praised Brandon for being "a born ham" and "a full-time punk."

Next up was Anne Louise Blythe, who sang "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me."

Travis Howard performed next with "Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain."
Judge Tracy Gershon said "You are an outlaw, and I think we need more outlaws like you."
Judge Robert K. Oermann said, "Roy Acuff would be spinning in his grave - he originated that song in 1947 - and that's a good thing, because I'm not looking for the past of country music, I'm looking for the future."
Brandi Gibson was next performing "Walking After Midnight."
The judges praised her for taking a Patsy Cline song and making it her own.

Next up was Prentiss Varnon performing "Hey Good Lookin."

Amy Chappell was next, and she sang "Son of a Preacher Man."
Judge Tracy Gershon didn't agree with her song choice.
Judge Robert K. Oermann and Charlie Robison said they always felt it was a country song.

Next was Kristen Kissling. She performed "Heartbreak Hotel."
Judge Tracy Gershon complimented her on her stage presence.

John Arthur Martinez was called next and he performed "When You Say Nothing At All."
Judge Tracy Gershon called him "honest," "compelling," and "wonderful."

Next up was Tasha Valentine, who sang "Your Cheating Heart."
Judge Robert K. Oermann said, "You belong on that stage."
Judge Charlie Robison said he loved her voice.

The last contestant to perform was Jamey Garner, singing "Two More Bottles of Wine."
Judge Robert K. Oermann said that he was able to bring this song to life.
Judge Tracy Gershon said that he has own style and he would make a great artist.

Clint Black checked in at regular intervals and offered his comments and support to the finalists.

Then Nancy O'Dell revealed the name of the eliminated contestant. The contestant is Anne Louise Blythe. The others surrounded her and offered their support.

That's the end of this episode. Next week there will be more performances and another elimination. So, Tune In.
