Our celebrity guest this week was Brad Paisley, And once again in the studio audience were guests from Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, home of the 101st Airborne Division. Before the performances began, Jamey Garner was eliminated. Jamey thanked USA, his girlfriend, the judges and his parents and has enjoyed his time on Nashville Star. The performances was preceded by a taped segment of the contestants talking about the inspiration of their song. Brandi Gibson was first, introducing her song called "I'm Gonna Make It." Her song reflected her homesickness when arriving in Nashville but it ended on a good note. Judge Robert Oermann apologized about cursing in front of her and informed her that she has the talent of a great songwriter. Judge Tracy Gershon informed her that she has to get thicker skin. Buddy Jewell was next and he introduced "Lacey's Song, a song written for his nine-year-old daughter. Apparently, when she was three years old, she asked him if, when she got to heaven, would God would let her help pour out the rain. Judge Tracy Gershon was at a loss for words so she held up one lit match. Judge Charlie Robison claimed that the song touched him because he has a 4 1/2 month old baby even though he usually perfer Buddy's hardcore music. Miranda Lambert was called next. She introduced "Greyhound Bound for Nowhere," a song she wrote with her father. She explained that her parent's worked as private investigators when she was 19. They revealed to her a lot of broken relationships and experiences the people went through. Judge Charlie Robison told her that she has brought imagery in the song and that's what country writing needs. Judge Robert Oermann said commented that the contestants were chosen because they are writers and we have heard the best of them. Judge Tracy Gershon told her that this is the third original song she has done and will buy the record right now. When asked if being a writer gives an artist a leg up in the business Brad Paisley said that if they can go in with original material, then they have an advantage. He is also glad to be part of the contestants original song experience. Brandon Silveira was up next. His song that he wrote with his friend Curtis called "Life Don't Get Much Better Than This," is about sitting around and relaxing.... Judge Tracy Gershon said that he has talent but is not ready to make a record. Judge Robert Oermann flat out told him that he can't sing. In the next segment, we saw the contestants visiting the Ryman Auditorium earlier in the week and performing "Amazing Grace." John Arthur Martinez song "Everything I Never Knew I Wanted" was written for his wife, Yvonna. Apparently, John Arthur left his job as a schoolteacher to pursue music full time because his wife pursued him to. Judge Robert Oermann told him that he is a wonderful performer. Judge Tracy Gershon said that country music comes from the heart and his song came from the heart. Amy Chappell's song called "No Turning Back" was about a ladies man. Judge Robert Oermann said that the best female songs in country music were written from a female perspective. Judge Tracy Gershon told her that she is impressed with her more and more every week. Before the show ended, Brad Paisley went backstage and gave encouraging words to keep on writing songs. Tune in next week at a new time as one more contestant will be eliminated and the remaining contestants perform American Songs.
