This week on Nashville Star, the contestants are now four to three. Last saturday was also the last chance to vote, and the results will be revealed during the grand finale on Saturday May 3, 2003. America's votes have already determined the first "Nashville Star."

The show began with a greeting from the Rascal Flatts, live from their show in Moline, Illinois as they started off the Brooks & Dunn Neon Circus Tour. Mixed in with the contestants' performances were highlights from their homecoming celebrations last week, along with reflections on how the show has changed their lives.

Miranda Lambert was first to be called. We then saw highlights of her visiting her hometown, Lindale, Texas. Miranda stated that she feels a lot different being there and how she is a star there. However all in all, she feels right at home As Miranda strolled through town, the streets were decorated with pink ribbons which is her favorite color. Another great event that happened for Miranda was when the Mayor of Lindale declared April 21 Miranda Lambert Day. After Miranda cried, she performed for her hometown.

Back live at the Acuff, Miranda sang "Don't It Make You Wanna Dance".
Judge Tracy Gershon commented that she loved the fact that Miranda sang a Merle Haggard song and now a Jerry Jeff Walker song.
Judge Robert K. Oermann agreed with Gershon. He also informed her whatever happens, she has a future in this business.

Nancy then called John Arthur Martinez. Brandi said that she knew that Buddy would be the next name to be called. Nancy told her to habg in there and that she never knows.

We then saw John Arthur's trip highlights back at his hometown, Marble Falls, Texas. John Arthur said that he knew he would get support from his community but not as much as he expected. At the lakeside pavilion, the Mayor presented the key to the city to John Arthur. In addition, the state legislature flew a flag over the Texas State Capitol in his honor.

Back in Nashville, John Arthur performed "River of Love, a Mexican-flavored love song set in San Antonio.
Judge Charlie Robison told him that he is the Mexican Marty Robbins.
Judge Robert K. Oermann told him that being from south Texas, he believes that ethnicity needs to be brought into country music more. He loved his performance.

Now it was time to find out who would get the final performance slot of the evening. Buddy Jewell and Brandi Gibson took center stage and then Nancy read the name of Buddy Jewell.

Brandi want to thank everybody at Sony and USA; all her friends and family for their support. She also said that she is proud and will settle for fourth place.

In the next segment of the show we saw Buddy Jewell visiting his hometown in Osceola, Arkansas. He was doing a benefit for the American Cancer Society in the high school auditorium. Buddy had a full day of suprises. The Mayor declared April 21 Buddy Jewell Day, made him Honorary Mayor for the day, and presented him with the key to the city.

Back in Nashville, Buddy performed "Gentle On My Mind."
Judge Robert K. Oermann said that he could listen to him sing all day.
Judge Tracy Gershon jokingly asked if Buddy is going to remember her when he becomes a big star.
Judge Charlie Robison also gave kudos on Buddy's performance.

The three remaining contestants each returned to perform a second song.

Miranda Lambert performed first with an original called "You and Your Memory."
Judge Robert K. Oermann commented that one reason she is standing on stage because of her talent as a songwriter. He is proud of her and "can't say enough good things" about her.
Judge Tracy Gershon told her that she has a wonderful voice and she's a great song writer.

Miranda then gave her words for the public. She thanked Travis Howard for helping her write the song and she tahnked America for their support.

In the next segment, we watched the contestants visit backstage at the Grand Ole Opry. There they met Vince Gill. Steve Buchanan, the Sr. Vice President of Gaylord Entertainment, introduced the contestants on stage, and Vice President and Manager Pete Fisher of the Grand Ole Opry extended an invitation to the winner to perform on the Opry stage itself.

John Arthur Martinez returned to the stage and performed another original song, "The Man Who Holds the Bow." This is a story song about learning life's lessons.
Judge Charlie Robison said that he didn't think happy songs belonged in country music, but John proved him wrong.
Judge Robert K. Oermann commented that last week, Tracy told him rock out, then asked if he did.
Judge Tracy Gershon said that's the energy she wanted. Also that the country would be a better place with John in it.

In John's words to the public, thanked his co-workers and family.

Buddy Jewell had the final performance of the evening. Before he performed, in a taped interview, he thanked God and the songwriters who'd given him work over the years.

Buddy performed an original song called "One in a Row," a classic country ballad about heartbreak.
Judge Tracy Gershon said that he is an inspiration. he has the vocals, the songwriting and the conviction.
Judge Robert K. Oermann said that it is awfully sad for someone of Buddy's talents to be waiting for a moment for ten years.
Judge Charlie Robison Charlie agreed with Robert.

In his final remarks, Buddy thanked his co-writers, USA Network and all the folks at Nashville Star.

That's the end of tonight's show. Next week will include performances by special guests Trace Adkins, Jo Dee Messina, and Clint Black, as well as a one-time-only performance by all 12 of the original finalists; Tune In!
