Guest Stars: Montgomery Gentry (Themselves)

This week 10 of the contestants moved into the house they will share for the remaining weeks of Nashville Star (at least those who make it through each week). To start the show off we get to see a little bit of them settling in and their opinions of their new home. Next up, host Nancy O'Dell tells us that Brad Cotter is the one the viewers chose to be the 11th contestant (chosen by the viewing audience from 5 hopefuls at the end of last weeks show). After introducing special guests Montgomery Gentry ((Eddie & Troy) and regular judges, Tracy Gershon, Billy Greenwood, and the Warren Brothers (Billy & Brett), we get right into the performances.

Not getting much time to catch his breath, Brad Cotter is the first one onstage.

Brad Cotter

Song: " Who Wouldn't Want To Be Me"- Keith Urban

Judge's Comments:

Warren Brothers- "America chooses and they were not wrong!"

Tracy- told him that it takes a lot of composure to get up there right after you're announced and that's a sign of a professional

Billy- told him he started off slow but he nailed it and it was great

Jennifer Hicks

Song: "He's My Kind of Rain"- Tim McGraw

Judge's Comments:

Billy –told her she was a star

Warren Brothers- said that if Tim McGraw had worn that outfit in his video he would have had a bigger hit

Tracy –thought she had a precious and endearing quality to her voice

Mal Rodgers

Song: "Gone Country"-Alan Jackson

Judge's Comments:

Tracy -was glad Mal is in our country (he's from Ireland) but she's not sure that was the right song for him

Billy- thought he did a nice job

Warren Brothers- warned him that he needed to stay "who you are". They were concerned he was wearing a cowboy hat and covering up his unique hairdo from last week, "We miss the Mohawk."

Sheila Marshall

Song: "Who's Cheatin Who"- Charley McCain/ Alan Jackson

Judge's Comments:

Warren Brothers- they were skeptical of a woman singing an Alan Jackson song but told her she pulled it off and she had a great strong voice.

Billy -told her she had a great powerful voice but she needed to tone it down a little sometimes.

Tracy- asked her, "How country are you?" She felt Sheila's on the rock side of country and wasn't sure if she was "A Nashville Star." This elicited a loud chorus of boos from the audience.

Brent Keith

Song: "Ain't Nothin ‘Bout You"- Brooks & Dunn

Judge's Comments:

Tracy- told him about how all the people she knew, of all ages, loved him and that she loved him too

Warren Brothers- called him the David Cassidy of country music and warned him that some guys won't like him but that every girl is going to love him and he should run with it.

Billy- said he loved him too.

There was a brief break here while Eddie & Troy of Montgomery Gentry gave the performers some encouragement and words of wisdom. Stacy Michelle started off the next set of six performers.

Stacy Michelle

Song: "Mi Vida Loca"- Pam Tillis

Judge's Comments:

Warren Brothers- "I love seeing more Blues in Country Music"

Tracy- said, "You can sing" and "You kicked butt"

Billy – is worried that her voice is "so rock"

Matt Lindahl

Song: " El Paso"- Marty Robbins

Judge's Comments:

Tracy- told him that we need more characters in country music

Warren Brothers- told him he was a freak, he was awesome, and they loved him

Billy-felt he was an opening act but didn't know that he could be a headliner

Gregory Delang

Song: "My Baby Thinks He's A Train"- Roseanna Cash

Judge's Comments:

Warren Brothers- thought she would kick butt (paraphrased) in a coffeehouse but told her she's not a major recording artist and no Nashville Star

Billy- felt she was better than last week but, "vocally and image wise, you're dated"

Tracy- told her she was sticking by her and that she still believes she has a unique voice, "We need more unique voices."

Lance Miller

Song: "Behind Closed Doors"- Charlie Rich

Judge's Comments:

Tracy- had heard him sing better but she liked that he reminded her of Merle Haggard

Billy- thought he was vocally off this week but can't wait to hear him next week

Warren Brothers- said he did a great job even though he was "a little pitchy". They also seemed to be preoccupied with telling him that he looked like Chastity Bono.

Marty Slayton

Song: "Blame It On Your Heart"- Patty Loveless

Judge's Comments:

Warren Brothers- felt she had no gimmick, but that she didn't really need one

Billy- "I'll see you next week"

Tracy- said she was a great singer but she'd like to see more personality

George Canyon

Song: "Kiss An Angel Good Morning"- Charley Pride

Judge's Comments:

Warren Brothers- thought there were other singers who might look and sound like him but no others that looked like Buzz Lightyear (I'm thinking that was a compliment but, I'm not real sure)

Billy- wants him to keep doing what he's doing

Tracy- told him his was one of the best performances of the night, "You're poised, you're country, you're in."

At the end of the night the judges chose to send Gregory Delang home (I don't think that was a surprise to anyone). I think who the viewers vote out this week may be a little more difficult to guess. My personal pick would be Matt Lindahl, but he seems to have quite a few fans and there's a lot of parity among the performers at this point. Over half of the group needs to get a little more focused and step it up to the next level or they'll get left behind. I think George Canyon, Sheila Marshall, and Brad Cotter had the three top performances of the night. For the others it may be a matter of who has the most friends to call in votes for them.
