Black BeautyFirst Aired in 1972 original network: ITV1 first aired date: September 23, 1972 last aired date: March 27, 1974 Black Beauty lives in late 19th Century England. This series is about his adventures and how he found "his" family - the Gordon's of York Cottage, in the village of " Five Oaks. Vicky, Kevin and their father, Dr. James Gordon have moved from London with their housekeeper Amy Winthropp. Before long " Beauty" finds them and the adventures begin. Vicky and Kevin are joined in their adventures by their friends Robbie and Albert and, in season 2, Vicky has returned to school to be replaced by her younger sister "Jenny" . Also arriving on the scene is Amy's wayward nephew " Ned". In their adventures, Beauty and the children met a multitude of colourful characters and villains. Some episodes would have you on the edge of your seat, others rolling with laughter. Sometimes your heart strings would be well and truly tugged but things always ended on a positive note. The show ran for 52 episodes from September 1972 until March 1974 and featured a veritable who's who of British character actors including, John Rhys-Davies ( Lord of the Rings), John Thaw ( Inspector Morse), Jack Shephard ( Wycliffe) Kenneth Cope and Mike Pratt ( Randall and Hopkirk Deceased), John Nettles ( Bergerac), Stuart Damon ( The Champions), Melvyn Hayes ( It Ain't half Hot Mum), Mervyn Johns, Jennie Linden, Alfie Bass, Saeed Jaffrey, Tony Doyle ( Ballykisangel), Jim Norton ( Father Ted), Peter Firth ( Spooks), Peter Bowles ( To The Manor Born), Mark Eden ( Coronation Street), Gretchen Franklin ( Eastenders), Gwyneth Strong ( Only Fools and Horses), Iain Cuthbertson, Glynn Edwards ( Minder), Keith Chegwin (Swapshop) and many many more!! This is classic, good, wholesome childrens television at its best and it's even great for grown ups too!! Highly recommended. Shows like this just do not date.
