Charlie Lawrence
First Aired in 2003
Writer/Exec. Producer Jeffrey Richman (Frasier, Wings) presents a new comedy starring Nathan Lane as a one-time TV star who lands on a much bigger stage in Washington when he wins a seat in Congress. Co-starring Laurie Metcalf ("Norm", "Roseanne"), Ted McGinley ("Sports Night," "Married ... with Children" ) and Stephanie Faracy ("The Lot," "Tales of the City" ). The multi-talented, award-winning Nathan Lane is a major star of Broadway (and off-Broadway) productions, film and television. Mr. Lane's star skyrocketed again during the past year with his starring role in Mel Brooks' smash Broadway comedy "The Producers," which earned him a Tony Award.
Tony Award-winner Nathan Lane stars as a former actor turned idealistic Congressman starting a new life in Washington D.C. Elected as a representative for New Mexico, Charlie is a fish out of water in the political arena and in his new digs at the Watergate Complex. His new neighbor and friend, Graydon Cord (Ted McGinley), turns out to be a member of the opposition party. Sarah Grimes (Laurie Metcalf) his self-assured chief of staff, tries to keep him in line and prevent him from making mistakes. His loopy office manager, Suzette Michaels (Stephanie Faracy), is a besotted fan of "Guppy Sherman," the beloved character he played in his long-running television series. Ryan Lemming (T.R. Knight), the befuddled new office intern, happens to be the son of a major contributor to Charlie's party. Now it's anyone's guess whether Charlie, an adored TV star, will be able to transition from Hollywood to the House.
