Danger IslandFirst Aired in 1968 Danger Island was a live-action, cliff-hanger adventure serial that aired in short segments as part of the Banana Splits Adventure Hour in the 1968-1969 TV season. It produced the catch phrase "Uh oh, Chongo!" which became popular among children who watched the Saturday morning show. It is also notable for introducing a young Jan-Michael Vincent to TV viewers, as well as for being one of the early directorial efforts of Richard Donner, who went on to direct such popular feature films as Lethal Weapon and Superman II. The story concerns Professor Hayden, his daughter, and his young assistant (Vincent). They are searching for the lost ancient city of Tobanya -- as well as for the professor's missing brother -- among uncharted islands of the South Pacific when they are attacked by pirates seeking lost treasure. The pirates destroy their boat, marooning our heroes on the island -- but not ending their search. They are soon joined by newfound friends Morgan and Chongo, two merchant seamen who had been marooned themselves years before. Along the way, our heroes must not only fend off the pirates, who are after the rumored treasure of the lost city, but also outwit native island headhunters. The serial appeared only on the first season of the Banana Splits show, but it was sometimes seen on the reruns of the show which were syndicated in later years. Danger Island is fondly remembered for its unique mix of adventure and slapstick comedy. If you see any mistakes on this page or if you have more infomation about this show, please submit a comment |
