Fast Show, The

First Aired in 1994

For those who don't know The Fast Show, it's a multi BAFTA award winning show written by Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Higson.

Higson and Whitehouse became friends at their university (East Anglia). Paul quit after one year and Charlie started performing in a band.

They ended up in a flat together with Harry Enfield. Charlie and Paul were painters and decorators while Harry worked on his comedy character.

One night there was a call from a producer who wanted Enfields character Stavros to do Saturday Night Live, Charlie and Paul became his writers.

Harry produced his own series 'Harry Enfield and chums' then later the group made The Fast Show a reality. The Fast Show injected a new lease of life into sketch shows.

If you look at pre-fast show sketches you will see they move much slower but the premise for the Fast Show was, get them on, say something funny, get them off.

I hope this brief history has helped you learn a bit more about the origins of the great show.
