Newton's AppleFirst Aired in 1983 Newton's Apple, one of the longest-running series on PBS, relied on viewer questions about science, technology, and nature. The average show usually consisted of two field reports, one studio guest, a nature or wildlife sequence, and (in later seasons) "On The Spot" questions posed to one of the hosts or field reporters. From Season 5 to Season 8, the series also presented "Newton's Lemons," old newsreels of inventions that didn't quite become mainstream. Given its educational value, Newton's Apple was popular to schools throughout the United States. GPN, a service of The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, acquired video sales rights to the later seasons in 1994, and still sells these programs.
