On the Spot

First Aired in 2003

The television comedy, reimagined. On the Spot is a partially scripted/partially improvised half-hour comedy series that relies on the participation of the audience and the quick wit of the cast members to move the story along - always in surprising new directions - and provide non-stop laughs along the way.
On The Spot may look like a sit-com and sound like a sit-com, but it's really a high-wire comedy act without a net. Each fast-paced episode has a storyline, but instead of the usual scripted jokes, rehearsed performances and laugh tracks, On The Spot is largely improvised. The clever ensemble cast is kept on its toes by audience suggestions that can turn each week's plot upside-down in a heartbeat.
Every installment promises to be wildly unpredictable for regular cast members Lance Barber (Gilmore Girls), Jordan Black (According to Jim), newcomer Erinn Carter, Jeff B. Davis (Whose Line Is It, Anyway?), Michael Hitchcock (Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman), Arden Myrin (What Women Want, Working), Mindy Sterling (the Austin Powers triolgy, How the Grinch Stole Christmas) and Lindsey Stoddart (Spy TV, The Ring). Completing the package is comedy legend Tim Conway (The Carol Burnett Show) and other surprise guest stars who drop by each week to add to the madness. The music and late-night atmosphere are provided by the On The Spot house band, led by musician Dweezil Zappa. The show is hosted by Chip Esten.
Every episode takes place at the Sun Spot Hotel in Malibu, California, so the setting will feel familiar to sit-com audiences, but the comedy style is all its own. With its population of quirky employees and guests, the Sun Spot has definitely seen better days, and Mr. Henderson (Conway), president of the corporation that owns the hotel, needs some new blood to turn things around. He sends his unsuspecting mail clerk, Jeff Miller (Davis), to assist the current manager, Karl (Brian Doyle Murray), and get things back on track. Unfortunately, Karl makes this impossible when he suddenly dies. Jeff is put in charge and has to whip the remaining employees into shape, including assistant manager Brenda (Carter), the bizarre husband-and-wife lounge act, FiFi (Sterling) and The Professor (Hitchcock), the adorable but ditzy maid, Caramel (Myrin) and bartender Monty (Black).
The audience is an integral part of each episode of On The Spot. Not only do they offer suggestions for each week's plot, they may find themselves on camera as hotel guests and patrons in the lounge.
An exciting and innovative half-hour, On The Spot is from Warner Bros. Television and creator/executive producer Robert Cohen (The Ben Stiller Show, The Simpsons).- From TheWB.com
