Our WorldFirst Aired in 1986 "For The Next Hour, Think Of Your Television Set As A Time Machine" - The words Linda Ellerbee used to open each episode of ‘Our World' set the tone for this interesting, educational, and informative series of the mid-80s. ‘Our World' was a very well-written, well-produced, well-edited, generally well-done history/nostalgia program, produced by ABC News. Highly praised by critics and viewers, alike (The few viewers, that is, who watched), each episode focused on a particular period of World history, and featured video and film footage of world-changing events, and other interesting stories from each period, with interviews of various people who were involved with each, and comments from Ellerbee and former ABC News Correspondent Ray Gandolf. Despite it's high quality, ‘Our World' never had a chance. Scheduled on Thursday nights at 8 p.m., opposite the most popular series on TV, at the time – NBC's ‘The Cosby Show' – ‘Our World' simply served as somewhat of a time-slot-filler, until ABC could come up with something to do battle with Cosby. There is little information available for this series. Exact air-dates are unknown, and any information on the themes of, or guest appearances in any episode of the series – Including the few listed here – Is quite welcome. Even were it not for ‘Cosby', it's doubtful that ‘Our World' would have had much of a following, for there just weren't enough history buffs to keep it alive. But… It was great while it lasted. And so it goes… If you see any mistakes on this page or if you have more infomation about this show, please submit a comment |
