Welcome to the Peter Gunn television program guide. The Peter Gunn television program ran for three seasons. The first two seasons were on NBC and the last was on ABC. Peter Gunn was a private detective in the film noir tradition. All of the shows were black and white and featured the music of Henry Mancini. The action of the show was closely tied to the musical score and you could usually tell what was happening on the screen by the music accompanying it. Henry Mancini released an album called "Music from Peter Gunn" featuring the theme and music from this show. It won a Grammy award at the first Grammy award presentation. This album is still available on CD. The shows were all black and white and were set in and around Mother's Jazz Club in Los Angeles.
The Show
Peter Gunn was a private detective in the tradition of the film noir detectives of the 30's and 40's. What set him apart from the detectives of the past was the absence of the cheaply furnished office in the bad part of town and his snappy clothing and hip manner. This was also the first detective show where the music became an integral part of the action. He usually operated out of Mother's Jazz Club and rubbed shoulders with the hip people of the time. Pete, as his friends called him, was often aided by police Lieutenant Jacoby. At the jazz club, Mother was joined as a regular character by Edie Hart, a jazz singer and Pete's girlfriend.
