Point BlankFirst Aired in 2002 Investigative Comedy comes to television! There exists a cornucopia of television news magazine shows now running nightly on Canadian television such as W5 or the Fifth Estate, in Britain with Panorama, the world's longest running public affairs TV program or the BBC's Watchdog, and in the United States, Sixty Minutes, Dateline and 20/20. These are all TV programs deserving of being lampooned because of their very self-righteous approach and overly preened and pretentious hosts. There hasn't been a parody. Not until now. Not until POINT BLANK. The people who brought you DOUBLE EXPOSURE now train their comedic sights on a send-up of the TV news magazine genre. Linda Cullen and Bob Robertson, two of Canada's most successful television satirists, anchor POINT BLANK. POINT BLANK continues the time-honoured Canadian tradition of looking at everything with a slightly cynical eye. This time it is focused on television's proverbial sitting duck - the TV news magazine. Where high-cheekboned, helmet-haired, journalists sympathetically nod to any poor sap who willingly offers up perfectly in POINT BLANK, taking comedic stabs at everything from cloning and children's toys to bird droppings and two ply toilet paper --you will never look at a news magazine show the same way again. POINT BLANK is a parody. The comedy comes from exaggeration of a well-known form, as opposed to comedy sketches filled with punch line jokes and laugh tracks. The production values are high with a set, graphics and music score that rival the real news shows. Nevertheless, the ultimate point is to make viewers laugh and POINT BLANK certainly does that.
