Short Story, The

First Aired in 1978

This 16-part ITV series boasted excellent production values.

John Robbins, famed for Cover To Cover, introduced the dramatizations in The Short Story and directed a handful of them as well. Much like Cover To Cover, Robbins set the stage for a book. The remainder of each program played out the story in Masterpiece Theatre fashion.

The late Ray Gladfelter wanted to duplicate this formula when he started production of The Novel in 1980, but would run into problems.
