First Aired in 1980

Show Type: Situation Comedy
First Telecast: April 24, 1980
Last Telecast: September 13, 1980
Episodes: 6 Color Episodes, 2 Unaired

Prior to "Tour of Duty," TSOCF was television's first Vietnam-themed program. The setting was the Armed Forces Vietnam Network (AFVN) TV station in wartime Saigon, circa 1967. The show was about the staff who produced "The AFVN News and Sports," a six-o'clock news program that was also known as "The Follies." Colonel Harvey Marvin (Joby Baker) was the commanding officer; Candi LeRoy (Aarika Wells) was the weather girl; Sam Paige (A.C. Weary) and Don "Robby" Robinson (Laurence Fishburne) were the newscasters; Lt. Vaughn Beuhler (Randall Carver) was Marvin's aide; Midas Metcovitch (Philip Charles MacKenzie) was the TV director; Ho (George Kee Cheung) was the station's janitor; Percy Wiggins (David Hubbard) was the technician; Lou Roskoe (Howard Witt) was the Associated Press reporter and Marcel Valjean (Byron Webster) was a scheming businessman. Fred Travalena was the voice of President Lyndon B. Johnson.

This comedy-drama starring an early Laurence Fishburne (who starred in "Apocalypse Now" one year earlier) and featuring then-unknown actors Bill Paxton and Phil Hartman, was pulled after two episodes aired in April (4/24 & 4/26), 1980, for its distasteful treatment of the war. The show returned once that August (8/2), and one more episode was burned off that September (9/13). Two of the six episodes that were filmed remain unaired.
