Today (Australia)First Aired in 1982 The new-look Today (Australia) at 7.00am is co-hosted by Karl Stefanovic and Tracy Grimshaw, joined by Leila McKinnon presenting the Today news. Originally from Brisbane, Stefanovic was a reporter and back-up presenter for National Nine News in 2000. In 2002, his exclusive reports on the NSW bushfires led to his appointment to the Nine newsroom in Sydney. In 2003, Stefanovic was posted to Los Angeles and last year, as well as reporting for Nine in North America, he returned home to guest-host Today with Tracy Grimshaw who has co-hosted the program since 1996. Grimshaw joined Channel Nine's Melbourne newsroom in 1981 and has reported and presented for National Nine News both here and overseas. She has also hosted the network's continuous coverage of major events such as the rescue of Thredbo survivor Stuart Diver in 1997 and the death of Princess Diana a month later. Each January she hosts A Current Affair – Summer Edition. Today news presenter Leila McKinnon is an accomplished journalist and experienced reporter for both A Current Affair and National Nine News and has been a regular fill-in host of Today in recent years. Today premiered on the Nine Network on June 28, 1982. From the outset, the program broke new ground in live television and for more than 20 years has been a part of viewers' lives as Australia's longest-running breakfast program. Grimshaw and Stefanovic are joined by new weather reporter Steven Jacobs while the inimitable Richard Wilkins continues his special reports on entertainment. The new Today showcan be seen from 7.00am, live from an exciting location at Nine – a sophisticated purpose-built apartment showcasing Today at its best. National Nine Early Morning News from 6am to 7am is an exciting addition to the National Nine News stable and will be co-hosted by Sharyn Ghidella and Sydney radio journalist Chris Smith. Tim Gilbert will present sport. Ghidella has long been the face of morning news in Australia. Smith is a veteran of radio and television news and current affairs, much of it at Nine. The new program will draw on the full resources of Australia's leading news service to provide the most up-to-date information locally and internationally.
