Trials of O'BrienFirst Aired in 1965 Peter Falk's first great series performance as unorthodox New York attorney Daniel J. O'Brien. This brilliant show emphasized sophisticated comedy and mystery rather than looking at distrubing issues a la "The Defenders". It somewhat resembled "The Thin Man" movies in tone. O'Brien defended clients on murder charges and eventully found the guilty party (sometimes his own client). At the end of the episode, O'Brien was fond of bringing all the suspects together and reenacting the crime. New York City (where the show was filmed) was almost a character. "Trials of O'Brien" was all Falk but the cast of other regulars was amazing: Joanna Barnes as his ex-wife, Ilka Chase as his ex-mother-in-law, Elaine Stritch as his secretary, and David Burns as his investigator. The guest stars were also cool: Alan Alda, Faye Dunaway, Gene Hackman, Angela Lansbury, David Carradine, Martin Sheen, Roger Moore and Robert Blake to name a few. Richard Alan Simmons ("The Price of Tomatoes") was executive producer. The Emmys completely ignored this show, out of touch as usual. "Trials of O'Brien" was one of the greats.
