Weather

First Aired in 1982

The Weather Channel is actually a cable network based in Atlanta, Georgia. It produces continuous, 24-hour national, regional and local weather-related live and video programming, which is distributed by satellite to local cable television systems through out the United States.

The Weather Channel is one continuous live feed of weather reporting, made up of one-hour segments, which in turn makes up 3-4 hour blocks of focused programming or coverage. Program formats are fluid and are made to meet the viewers' interests and needs at various times of the day. Special programs are created for mornings, weekends, and during primetime to provide information with an entertainment value. When weather becomes exceptionally severe or threatening, The Weather Channel covers the affected area with on-location live reports and updates by Weather Channel experts. The Weather Channel also produces and airs original programs to break the constant flow of weather information and create a different perspective for viewers.

Viewers have found the Weather Channel to be a constant and familiar face on TV and is looked to by many as a filler while waiting for other favorite programs to begin on other networks.

The Weather Channel, launched on May 2, 1982
